Mildred Deyo was born in Newburgh, New York on October 25, 1884. Her father, Dr. John Deyo, provided Mildred with the life of turn-of-the-century debutante. Both Mildred and her older sister Edith, were members of the Powelton Club in Newburgh, summered in Amaganasett and Allenhurst, and lunched at the Waldorf Astoria quite frequently. Mildred's life is one of service to the Newburgh community and her country. She was active in many charity events and boards, served overseas during World War I and became curator of Washington's Headquarters in Newburgh, New York.
The first diary, dated September 4, 1895, Mildred Deyo records her trips to Boston and details the beginnings of her fascination and dedication to American History. She was only 11.
The last six composition notebooks begins on Pearl Harbor day, December 7, 1941 and takes the reader through to the end of World War II with amazing detail
